The ASUS F555LA is a fast and accurate laptop that’s made for gamers. Its powerful processor, sleek design, and extensive connectivity options have caught the attention of serious PC users everywhere.

The “asus f555la-us71” is a laptop that was released by ASUS. It has a 15.6 inch screen, Intel Core i3 processor, and 8GB of RAM.

In this ASUS F555LA-AB31 laptop review, we’ll take a look at another popular budget laptop.

This laptop was introduced in the second half of 2015, therefore it has some modern, high-performing hardware. Let’s take a deeper look at what you receive with the F555LA-AB31 if you decide to purchase it.

ASUS F555LA-AB31 15.6-Inch Full-HD Laptop Overview

The F555LA-AB31 is a budget-friendly intermediate laptop with a 15.6-inch crystal-clear display. Its key selling point is its complete high resolution 1080p display, which is uncommon in laptops at this price point.

As the operating system grows more popular among customers, this is another laptop that comes preinstalled with Windows 10. The laptop’s fifth-generation Intel Core i3 CPU, 500GB hard drive, DVD burner, and integrated HD camera and microphone are all further selling points. With a silver matte coated palmrest and keyboard surround and a black fingerprint and scratch resistant exterior, it boasts a dual-tone design.

This ASUS laptop is ideal for general-purpose users and may serve as a desktop replacement for people who want the mobility of a laptop on a regular basis without losing speed or display quality.

ASUS-F555LAir

Pros

  • Display in Full HD (1960 x 1080p)
  • Touchpad with smart gestures
  • 1 year guarantee from the manufacturer, including 1 year against accidental damage.
  • Windows 10 comes preinstalled.

Cons

  • There is no touch-screen capability.
  • There is no lighting on the keyboard.
  • Hard disk drive with a capacity of 500GB and a rotational speed of 5400rpm (HDD). There is no solid-state drive (SSD)

Who is it intended for?

By today’s standards, the ASUS F555LA-A31 is not the most portable laptop, and it seems to be more suited as a desktop replacement. The Full HD 1080p display is undoubtedly the most appealing feature of this notebook, and everything has been considered, including four one-click visual modes (normal, vivid, eye care mode, or manual mode for those custom adjustments), a matte finish to reduce glare, and even ASUS’s 30-day Zero Bright Dot Guarantee. Given that most rival laptops only have a display resolution of 1366 x 768p, the screen is unquestionably a good feature.

It has a really great picture in terms of style, with ASUS’s concentric rings on the outside cover making it seem particularly attractive when it catches the light. This is shown in the video below, which displays the PC from a variety of perspectives.

This laptop is ideal for individuals who need a general-purpose computer that is also portable without sacrificing display quality. It will perform admirably for routine work like as typical office applications and other non-demanding programs, internet surfing, viewing multimedia videos and movies, visiting social media sites, skype conversations, and so on. There’s plenty of room on the 500GB hard drive for films, images, and other stuff.

This laptop’s i3 series CPU is one of Intel’s premium dual-core options. This CPU is an i3-5010U, which is capable of doing these kind of jobs and running video editing software like Adobe Premier. However, if you intend on running many apps at once or programs that need a lot of processing power, you may need to update your RAM.

Although this laptop lacks a dedicated graphics card, the integrated Intel HD graphics can handle less demanding games such as DOTA 2, Counter-Strike Global Offensive, League of Legends, Minecraft, Portal 2, and others. However, excellent framerates will almost certainly need running on medium or low graphical settings.

Who Isn’t It Designed For?

If you’re looking for an ultra-portable laptop for everyday use, this one is a touch on the big side, but it’s still manageable for those times when you need to carry it with you.

It has adequate performance and can handle most tasks without difficulty, but if you plan on using it for demanding tasks like high-end gaming, intense multitasking, or advanced video editing, you may find it a little slow unless you upgrade the RAM and 5400rpm HDD to a much faster solid state drive.

Performance

In terms of performance, this laptop offers excellent value for money. It’s not the finest hardware at the entry level price range, but it’s certainly capable of performing. When you consider the Full HD screen, ASUS’ intuitive touchpad’smart gesture,’ separate numeric keypad, bluetooth, and other pleasant features on this laptop, it begins to seem fairly decent for the price.

The Smart Gesture is very useful since it simplifies scrolling, browsing Windows, zooming, and even turning pictures. Take a look at the video below to see what I’m talking about:

This computer’s Intel fifth-generation i3-5010U Broadwell CPU is respectable and was introduced in early 2015, albeit it is not the highest series (Intel’s i7 series is at the top of the range, followed by the i5 series, then the i3). In certain applications, the i3-5010U model is a dual-core CPU that can handle hyperthreading, allowing it to operate as if it had four cores. It features a 2.1GHz clock speed.

The Intel HD Graphics 5500 module is built inside the i3 CPU to provide graphics. While it isn’t a dedicated graphics card, it is more than capable of handling resolutions of up to 3840x2160p when connected to an external monitor through the VGA or HDMI interfaces.

In terms of memory, you get 4GB of 1600MHz DDR3L RAM, which is a normal memory amount in today’s laptops. It has a total RAM capacity of 12GB (4GB + 8GB). Although the original manufacturer’s 4GB RAM is soldered in place and cannot be replaced, there is a single open space for a simple RAM update if you believe it is required.

With a 500GB hard drive, there’s plenty of storage space, even if it’s only a regular 5400rpm disk. It is feasible to replace the hard drive to an SSD for a significant performance boost, but be advised that doing so would invalidate the laptop’s manufacturer warranty.

The SD card reader, Bluetooth connection, camera, and multi-touch smart gesture touchpad complete out this fantastic all-rounder computer that will meet the demands of most individuals.

Display

Let’s take a closer look at the 15.6-inch Full HD display, which is the laptop’s most important feature. The F555LA-AB31 has a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080p (Full HD), which is excellent for viewing movies and photos. Most laptops in this price range only have a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768p, whereas the F555LA-AB31 has a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080p (Full HD), which is excellent for viewing movies and photos.

It can handle up to 3840 x 2160p resolution on a second monitor connected through the HDMI connector if you want it even bigger.

Software

The F555LA-AB31 comes with Windows 10 Home version (64 bit) preinstalled, as well as a complimentary 30-day McAfee antivirus subscription.

Unfortunately, it does not include any Microsoft Office software, so if you plan to use this laptop for work, school, or college and require applications such as Word, Excel, or Powerpoint, you’ll need to purchase a separate Office subscription or use a free alternative such as LibreOffice or OpenOffice.

Support & Warranty

The F555LA-A31 comes with a one-year warranty that can be acquired by filling out the warranty card that comes with the unit.

This item is part of ASUS’s “360° Complete Notebook Care Package,” which offers a number of useful features for added peace of mind:

  • International guarantee of one year
  • Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
  • Zero Bright Dot offers a 30-day money-back guarantee (on display)
  • 1 year warranty against accidental damage (spills, drops, power surge, fire)
  • In the case of a product return or warranty claim, you’ll get free two-way standard delivery both ways.

The accident protection guarantee, which will cover you in the event of any unfortunate clumsy incidents such as liquid spills or unintentional falling, is one of our favorites.

Upgradeability

While the F555LA-AB31 is already a capable computer out of the box, there are a few improvements that may be made to improve its performance.

The RAM and hard drive are two places on this laptop where we believe it may be enhanced.

The F555LA’s RAM may be upgraded.

Upgrading the RAM on the F555LA-AB31 is a straightforward process that you can do yourself with little difficulty. This should not breach the manufacturer’s warranty since the user handbook includes instructions on how to do it.

The video below demonstrates how to make a RAM upgrade on this laptop for those who want a bit more information.

The laptop comes with 4GB of non-removable RAM, however there is a single vacant memory slot if you want to add more.

It can take up to 8GB of additional RAM, but for most people, a 4GB RAM stick should enough. Unless you’re performing a lot of multitasking, in which case other hardware elements like the CPU may become the limiting factor rather than the RAM, the difference between putting an additional 4GB against an extra 8GB won’t be obvious to the user.

You’ll need a 1.35V memory stick if you want to update your computer’s RAM. Many manufacturers include a “RAM Configurator” feature on their websites where you may key in the Make and Model of your PC to see what items are compatible.

These memory modules are compatible with the F555LA-AB31 (click the photos to see Amazon.com prices):

On the F555LA, replacing the HDD with an SSD

The 500GB hard drive in the F555LA-AB31 will get the job done, but if you really want to boost the performance of this laptop, an SSD upgrade is one option.

This update is not for the faint of heart, as it will need you to open up your laptop (ASUS has not made this operation easy), voiding your manufacturer’s warranty. If you’re worried about this, wait until your PC’s warranty has expired before upgrading the hard drive.

The video below demonstrates the steps needed in replacing an SSD.

SSDs that might be used include:

Portability

With dimensions of 10′′ x 15.1′′ by 1′′, the F555LA isn’t the most portable, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be readily moved. At roughly 5.1 kilos, we don’t believe it’s something you’d want to carry around on a daily basis – we think it’s more suited for replacing a desktop computer while still allowing for occasional on-the-go usage.

Although you may expect the higher-resolution display to use more electricity, the i3 CPU is rather energy efficient. Expectations have been placed at roughly 4-5 hours with little CPU activity, no wifi, and decreased screen brightness, according to certain sources. However, we’ve observed a few user reviews claiming that the laptop’s battery life is closer to 2.5 to 3 hours, so we presume this is a more fair estimate based on more highly loaded settings.
